Our Products

Slice A

Large diameter, sorted by size and quality. Slices are cut at a shallow angle, so their fibres are longer and they hold together in boiling water; tablets are cut straight across the root.

Tablet A

Licorice root cut into tablets, selected by size (diameter A — large). Tablets are cut straight across the root, the cheaper cut for extraction; slices, cut at a shallow angle, keep longer fibres and hold together better in boiling water.

Fingers

Licorice root cut into 5–8 cm lengths, mixed sizes.

Licorice Root Extract

Licorice root extract, as powder or liquid, made by our extraction partner, "Licorice Extract" LLC, and supplied through us. It is a raw material for further purification, into glycyrrhizic acid and the root's other components, not an extract for direct use in food, cosmetics or medicines. Ask us for its specification.

Our Process

From wild-harvested root to the packed export load.

Stage 01

Harvest

Wild licorice root, harvested across Khorezm, Uzbekistan, all year round, under a permit from the National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change.

Stage 02

Processing

Slices, tablets and other machine cuts are machine-washed, steamed so the root cuts cleanly and keeps its colour, then cut, dried (slices in the shade) and sieved; slices A to C1 are sorted by hand. Sticks and fingers are cut by hand, dried and cleaned in a rotating drum; they are washed on request. In cold or wet weather, drying moves into dryers.

Stage 03

Samples and documents

Every export load has a certificate of analysis from a professional laboratory in Uzbekistan, which you can choose. Free samples of 100–200 g per grade let you test the root in your own lab before you order. A sample of every shipment is kept for one year.

Stage 04

Packing and shipping

Packed in PP bags of 20–30 kg, or in bags printed with your logo; fumigated with phosphine before shipping; 11 t per 20 ft container, 22 t per 40 ft container or truck, with the full set of export documents.

What is licorice root?

Licorice root (spelled liquorice in British English and in EU texts) is the dried root of Glycyrrhiza, a perennial plant of the legume family. The species we supply, G. glabra, grows wild along the rivers of Central Asia, including the Amu Darya in Khorezm. Its sweetness comes from glycyrrhizin, about 50 times sweeter than sugar, and it is used in confectionery, drinks, tobacco and herbal medicine.
